Strawberry Fields Forever
My niece has posted an article about my family's strawberry traditions. I must say I cried at the end, knowing that traditions cannot always be kept alive.
Here is her website- I haven't gotten good at linking yet. I'm just a novice at the blogging thing, while she is the queen. www.megnut.com

Welcome Stony Loam Farm Members
Today is the first pick-up day for the vegetable subscription at Stony Loam Farm. Although off to a rough start with the incredibly wet weather, the summer promises to be bountiful as well as beautiful. Welcome!

New Ideas
There's no rest for the kitchen. Last week Jay made bagels twice. They were delicious, even yesterday. If only breakfast were 3 meals a day, I could eat bagels, then english muffins, then brioche. Of course, all accompanied by eggs of any sort.

This week, the new idea is hamburger buns. At the supermarket, I could not find a bun or roll that looked halfway decent for hamburgers to sit on. Jay and I looked for ideas on how to make a bun that would taste good, and found brioche hamburger buns to be the answer. Let's see tomorrow. If the sun continues to shine ( 6 hours and counting), barbequed burgers cannot be far behind. Everyone needs a good bun.

Summer Hours
Next week we will transition into our summer hours, so we will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday ( for those people who will forget), and then the next week will be only Tuesday and Thursday. Why, you might ask? Because the summer in Vermont seems so short, and we want to enjoy long weekends. Also, we want to coordinate with the pick-up days for Stony Loam Farm CSA, which begins the week of June 13. Although the season is off to a slow start for Farmer Dave, he is working like a dog to catch up. Can't wait for those fresh veggies to start coming in.
